At the end of the first full day of the Story

[Sumire is treating her journal... like a journal, because why not. It's not like any of the people she'd talk to about this stuff otherwise are here.]

I suppose I've at least found one useful inroad, but I still feel so lost, trying to make sense of this. Akechi-san would have it all figured out by now, I'm sure.

What we need is a way to coordinate without drawing attention to ourselves as outsiders, but I don't know what that would be.

[Guess who learned Reply All and doesn't know it! Someone may want to let her know this isn't quite as private as she intended.]

[Added after Hikaru's comment:]

Sorry about that, everyone. This is Sumire. I suppose I got what I asked for.

I found Siobhan-san - Sigrid, at the moment - and she's offered to help me get ready for the masquerade. At least I got to choose my own mask. Does anyone have much sense of what's going on besides that yet?

[Iren writes in elegant cursive.]

It's good to know there are others who haven't lost their minds. I was starting to think I was alone once again.

Personally, I suspect that if we all just got a table at a restaurant and discussed the situation openly, most people would be too polite to confront us not making any sense. It's not like we're a group of convicts or outlaws.

I have some how secured employment at a theater, serving drinks, but beyond that I am not sure what it is we should actually be doing right now. Perhaps a gathering wherein each of us could pick each others' brains would offer us some insight.

Your faithful servant,
Iren Suto

The masquerade does seem to be the talk of the town. If we wish to enter without suspicion, we will need to do a lot of preparations. Just getting our hands on clothes suitable for such an event will be an ordeal all on its own. And gathering undue attention from werewolves and vampires is a scary prospect.

But, on the other hand, I do love a good fancy masquerade. I haven’t been to one in ages!

Oh I intend to be there as well.

If you don’t mind me asking, have you ever been to such an event?

Oh dear…

[…Is what she said out loud, where Sumire couldn’t hear her. What she actually wrote in response was:]

You might want to consider looking into what specific expectations there are for guests at a vampire’s masquerade. Such events often have quite strict expectations and manners, and the last thing we want is to mark ourselves as outsiders while surrounded by supernatural predators.
