What do you mean we don't even get to keep anything from our journey to that world?

What's the point of going into weird alternate worlds if we can't come out with loot?! Doesn't this place know adventurers have that as the number-three rated motivation for their work?!

There's already so much annoying and problematic about this whole thing, but that on top?!

No, in my case I'm sure it was somewhat about me. A weird blessing situation of me getting books from other worlds. But 'girl with future memes' is a lot less of a problem than 'different churches fighting over the possible invention of moveable type'.

Slightly more seriously, I'm a recordsmith first and foremost. Just one who has reason to have adventuring training on the side.

Precisely. Plus ensuring existing records don't decay. Which among other things involves keeping the library cold. Thus the thick robes.
