What do you mean we don't even get to keep anything from our journey to that world?

What's the point of going into weird alternate worlds if we can't come out with loot?! Doesn't this place know adventurers have that as the number-three rated motivation for their work?!

There's already so much annoying and problematic about this whole thing, but that on top?!

Damn it, I had plushies and I wanted to keep them...

Well, the basic concept isn't exactly dangerous. I wasn't even a decade old when it decided to chase me, I'm sure someone old enough to read and write would do just fine.

Ah, a library. You must feel right at home here, maybe? I know places like this don't quite exist in my homeworld, books are considered 'outdated' and have been replaced by recording crystals... but I have to admit the feeling of paper under my fingers is surprisingly pleasant. Not to mention how some of them smell when they look almost new...

I am at least familir with living in your own workplace. I was born, raised and educated in the Pandamonium, an isolated research facility, so I rarely had contacts with the outside world.

Yup. Monastic life isn't like most people in my world, and it's... Well. Less isolating when you have a city around you. But still isolating.

A library's more at home, but this one's some kind of super-weird for sure...

I am familiar with the concept of living a rather... isolating existence. The facility where I spent my entire life was hardly accessible in any way and leaving was even more difficult. Even sunlight wouldn't reach us, still.... I am fond of that place. Probably because it was all i really know before coming here.

I can only imagine. I'm used to weird but this is weird *weird*.

It's a matter of degree, and the degree here is pretty high, yeah.

That facility... I can only imagine the purpose it would have, and that it was important enough to raise someone there...

Mhm. I guess we have in common a lack of... familiarity with the outside world?

It was a facility created for the sake of research. My parents both happened to be leading figures in that place and I was assigned a job there in my youth so I had no reason to leave.

Or, well, I didn't think I had one.

... Yeaaaah, I explicitly had to go out sometimes to try and avoid that. We do our own thing, yes, but we're still of Salzberg, was always the wisdom.

Leaving wasn't an option for me. High level security facility and all.

I did get clearance a bit before coming here, though, so I did get to see a bit of my world at least. I got to try Elpis Deipnon before coming here, that was nice.

It's a meat based dish, for added context.

Enough about my place, though, do you want to tell me more about the place you called home? What did your people do?

Well. Salzberg is a fairly large city, lots of river-assisted merchant trade for one. The Monastery, though... We follow Gnomon the Archivist, God of Records.

Meaning it's a very large, rather cold, library. And us hand-copying tons and tons of records to ensure the past goes unlost.

Some of us grow some berries for liqueurs on the side, but mostly... It's a big library as a form of worship and for education of the people of the city. We have other churches and monasteries across the world.
