[ There was a new paper pinned to the bulletin board. The handwriting was very nice and cursive too. ]

Idle hands make fretful minds and who among us really wants to sit still? [Not him, that's for sure. He is losing his mind not having something to do.]

I am offering up my services to anyone who may be seeking help, from the small requests to the large ones. I'm fast; I'm strong; I can fly as well. Do you need something lifted or a book from a high shelf? I'll help with perfect precision.

If there's anyone you can count on to help, you can count on me, Nice. Have no fear~☆

[Nox's handwriting is... Sloppy is one word for it. Caught somewhere between 'researcher jotting down personal notes' and 'doctor writing prescriptions'. It's legible though. Barely.]

I suspect most of us want to do things on our own because of the aforementioned idleness.

The sitting around twiddling our thumbs part of this situation is quite unbearable.


That said, I won't say no thank you to some help getting books off of high shelves.
I do have my own set of powers that would let me just yank them down, but I'd rather not use mystical powers for my mundane needs all the time.

So, you have mystical powers, huh? I've seen a lot of powersets in my life, but something like that is a bit new to me. I imagine using powers like that for mundane things would be pretty tiring after a while.

The usage itself is fairly effortless but something about manipulating the energy that binds all living things together because a book happened to be sitting a bit too high up, you know?

Feels just a tad disrespectful.

Honestly I may also need help with any shelf above... Let's be generous say the third.

But I suppose my being pint-sized may be an unexpected boon for you since you won't be running out of work to do any time soon?

I suppose in that regard, it'll make finding you a lot easier. I won't have to quietly shout through the library "Who's the one who needed a boost??"

Honestly, for agreeing I think you might be doing me more of a service than I am you.

Can I ask- if it's not prying, are you hoping to find something in these books or is it more like a healthy thirst of knowledge?

It also helps that I am blue. Makes me rather hard to miss.

I imagine we're all rather restless. I think looking for a healthy outlet for it is a good thing.


In all honesty, I suppose the reading is my own way of coping with being here.
Back home it is my job to collect the scattered knowledge of my people. Relics and writings lost over millennia waiting to be found and added back into our history.

Whatever knowledge lies within the books here isn't going to be that.
But it's close enough to a familiar activity and it keeps my mind occupied.

I fear that if I allow my mind to stay idle I may start walking backwards and speaking in tongues so whatever works, no?

I was a little curious if you might be a researcher of some kind. The way you write, it reminded me of the way some colleague of mine would write back home. That's a pretty important job... I'm sure a lot of people treasure your help back home. And if you're feeling as restless as me, there's no doubt those of us here will enjoy any findings you find as well.

Even if your findings only lead to unfinished poetry or fairy tales.

The way I write or the actual sloppy handwriting?


I mostly consider myself a scholar and archaeologist if we're being technical about it.

Though individuals with my particular skill set are expected to fill many roles in the society I'm from- describing me as a religious leader and politician wouldn't be incorrect either. But I do like researcher quite a lot.


Is it correct of me to assume that your own role back home might have involved helping people?

Given that you appear to have a handy little catchphrase for it and everything?

Don't worry, I've seen much worse.

[ So he was someone of great importance back home. He figured that must be so with the name "Lord Nox" but even through writing, this man seemed so calm. He never would have guessed it. ]

You would be assuming correctly. It's sort of a habit that isn't very easy to turn off, the catch phrase and posing I mean- not that you could see a pose, but regardless. Back home we have heroes and agencies that they work under and my agency is known to be a little cheesy.

I understand.
'A life lived' and all that. I suspect I'd be hard pressed to turn off the researcher voice too.

Heroes contracted through agencies? That sounds equal parts fascinating and strange to me. May I ask how that works?


I can see why an agency might gravitate towards a little bit of cheesiness though.
Familiar to most and I'd imagine it does a lot to lower tension too.
Hard to get upset when someone just shot off a one-liner and struck a pose, hm?

It's a little difficult to explain without sending you papers worth of a reply, though it sounds like you might enjoy that.

But essentially having heros join with agencies help boost their power and popularity, but also helps keep them from going "rogue" so to speak.

Anything that can ease the tension and the worrying of the people no matter how cheesy it might be.

Honestly I probably would.

So it's a way of keeping heroes honest then.

[He files away the words Jedi-like in his mind because it certainly isn't Sith-like to have someone above them keeping them on the proverbial mat.]

I wish that was something I could do too. Unfortunately my rank within my society makes it so that a joke from me makes people uneasy and confused when I try to do something to ease their concerns.

It's a pity for I do so like to jest to ease tension...

Something like that, yes. Long before I was born, someone who had become a hero made a mistake with how much power they had and the fear the people had in him made him corrupt, or so the stories say. So it's their attempt at making sure nothing like that happens again.

As for the jokes, well... there's nothing saying you can't practice while you're here, right?

I can see how there would be a desire to safeguard against a repeat performance of such an event.

And I suppose I could, yes.

Perhaps there's a half-written book somewhere around here titled "Jokes 101" or something.

... Though do you suppose such a book would be incomplete in the normal sense or would I find setups with no punchlines and punchlines with no setups...

I hadn't even thought about it in regards to this library's strange aversion to completing anything and everything. I'm not sure which way would bother me more, having no punch line, or no setups to anything.

It almost makes me wonder if this place we were all brought to was created by the worlds biggest flake, starting projects and not finishing them. I'm almost surprised we ended up arriving with all of our limbs and not half of them.
